God Never wanted Sacrifices in Moses Law

God took No Pleasure in Animal Sacrifice

An atheist just told me in a fb group "your god takes pleasure in human and animal sacrifice "

Here was my answer to him.

"I'm glad you said god not God....

Your god may take pleasure in human and animal sacrifice....

The god in your mind who disappointed you may take pleasure in human and animal sacrifice.

The God, Elohim, Yahweh who created all of us, said that he never took pleasure in either human or animal sacrifice.

That's what the scripture says...

 Jer 7:21-23
"Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel:
“Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices and eat meat.
22 For I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices.
23 But this is what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.’

Heb 10:5 — Heb 10:6
Therefore, when He came into the world, He said:
“Sacrifice and offering You did not desire,
But a body You have prepared for Me.
In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin
You had no pleasure.

God at times required it but never took pleasure in it or desired it.

Jesus' death on the cross was not a human sacrifice.

The Old Covenant was given by angels as Paul said, because just like Adam, Israel fell when they refuse to obey at Sinai, which was suppose to be the mountain of life to them, instead became a mountain of death.

Israel did not want to listen to God for themselves. They wanted the eye for an eye, life for a life justice.

So animal sacrifices, which God took no pleasure in, was instituted as a life for their lives, since every Israelite chose to die, like Adam did on that mountain. God allowed the animal to die instead of the entire nation. That was mercy instead. The males were counted, Levites separated to represent all males, then sacrifices made to preserve the nation for a year.

"Animal sacrifices were a concession by God to a human idea, like giving Israel a king, allowing the building of the Temple, and allowing Moses to grant divorces." - Julia Schultz

Once again, it was a stop gap measure, ministered by angels, so that the entire Israel nation does not die, until they can bring forth Christ who died for ask of us.

Your true death, my true death occurred 2000 years ago.

Jesus' death on the cross was not a human sacrifice, to pacify an angry God full of wrath.

It was an act of love, where He was willing to die for people like you and me who did not want to be His friends, and it seems that's the case with you, where you still make God your enemy, when you are not His. That does not stop Him. He still decided your true death is, when He died, so you can live.

Respond to His Love, not to your hate."

God Prefers Love and Knowing Him, being true to your word, seeing injustices righted,  rather than Sacrifices.

"In sacrifice and offering, you have not delighted, but you have given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required." (Psalms 40:6)

"For I desire steadfast love, and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God, rather than burnt offerings." (Hosea 6:6)

"Take with you words and return to the LORD; say to him, 'Take away all iniquity; accept what is good, and we will pay with bulls the vows of our lips.'" (Hosea 14:2)

Doing charity and justice is more desirable to the Lord than sacrifice' (Proverbs 21:3)

God wanted to do a New thing, But had to Wait until Christ came. Sacrifices were temporary.

God deliberately told Israel to do some stuff we don't like today, because they were obstinate, their necks were like iron and their heads were hard...

He called that the former things. He told them to obey the law, kill all Canaanites, back then. It was a shadow of what He really wanted. He did not care for sacrifices, but He gave them a choice between blessings and curses and enacted the curses unto them when it was warranted.

He said He deliberately hid His ways, and hid what He called the new things, until much later.

So when we read a lot of the Old Covenant, he called that the former things, and sometimes they were atrocious. Did He tell them those things? Yes. But it was just for a time. The purpose was to get remnant, a seed to birth the new.

The new things, the new creation is what He was really after, and what truly reveals Him.

Want proof?

Isa 48:3 — Isa 48:5

“I have declared the former things from the beginning;

They went forth from My mouth, and I caused them to hear it.

Suddenly I did them, and they came to pass.

Because I knew that you were obstinate,

And your neck was an iron sinew,

And your brow bronze,

Even from the beginning I have declared it to you;

Before it came to pass I proclaimed it to you,

Lest you should say, ‘My idol has done them,

And my carved image and my molded image

Have commanded them.’

Notice now how He deliberately held back the new things, what He really is like, and did not tell them from the beginning.

The new things were only told and to be created [someone say new creation] deliberately after a period of obscurity.  But God said both the former which involved sacrifices and killings, and the new which involves , new covenant, new creation, new heavens and earth, new Israel, new man came form Him.

Isa 48:6 — Isa 48:8

“You have heard;

See all this.

And will you not declare it?

I have made you hear new things from this time,

Even hidden things, and you did not know them.

They are created now and not from the beginning;

And before this day you have not heard them,

Lest you should say, ‘Of course I knew them.’

Surely you did not hear,

Surely you did not know;

Surely from long ago your ear was not opened.

For I knew that you would deal very treacherously,

And were called a transgressor from the womb.

Wait. Wasn't Christ a Sacrifice?

The BIBLE Never said God sacrificed Christ, or He died to appease the wrath of some God. The Bible rejects the idea that Christ died to satisfy Gods wrathful demand of justice.

Who sent him to die? <-- No one.. He willingly succumbed to man's violent tendencies to find a scapegoat.

Who made it possible for a "god" to die. Remember "Don't kill."  <--- If you are insinuating God kill Christ then that is NOT IN THE BIBLE.  That means you have not read it yourself and are parroting people who think they know the Bible.

"Christ also died to reveal the self-giving, cosuffering nature of God which casts out fear, and casts down the accuser. It draws out the love and empathy of humanity which begins to dismantle the oppressive powers and social structures of this world and brings the world to justice, that is, setting the world right and the reconciliation of all things. Christ died a broken marred figure of a human at the hands of our religious/political judicial system and declares to us that he is the perfect image of God, and thus acquaints Gods self with victims everywhere and with all suffering humanity.

Christ is a sacrifice in that God sacrifices himself to make peace with us, offers us his body and blood. Not the other way around where we offer a sacrifice to God to appease him and offer him the body and blood. Gods peaceful and reconciliatory self-sacrifice is what changes the world and completely overturns all of our violent ways of thinking and reorients us towards reconciliation and the hope of peace on earth. It cleanses our conscience of sin because we know that Christ's unconditional forgiveness poured forth in his own peacemaking blood. God doesn't desire or require sacrifice, but rather mercy. God sacrifices himself and offers us to partake in him and be reconciled by love.

This is why he calls us to take up our cross with him and drink of his cup, not to appease Gods wrath with him, but to participate and be co-extensions in what he accomplished." Jacob M. Wright
