Biblical Predestination Part 5 - Rom 9 History of the Elect
Biblical Predestination Part 5 - Rom 9 History of the Elect
- There was an elect to be used to win all others
- First Adam, then Seth, then Noah then Shem, ten Abraham then Israel but Israel failed. Then Christ came as the elect.
- Jacob was loved, Esau hated so Jacob can be used to win Edom, Assyria, Egypt. Isa 19
- So God desires to win all men and he uses an elect to do so
Israel's remnant was the the original elect. Understand what that means.
The remnant did their job and brought forth Christ the ultimate elect.
Elect does not mean only one saved.
Romans 5:18
Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life.
That's why Gentiles can come in
Israel [Jacob] was the original elect
Rom 9:10 — Rom 9:12
And not only this, but when Rebecca also had conceived by one man, even by our father Isaac (for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who calls), it was said to her, “The older shall serve the younger.”
The goal was to call Gentiles His People.
Rom 9:25 — Rom 9:26
As He says also in Hosea:
“I will call them My people, who were not My people,
And her beloved, who was not beloved.”
“And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them,
‘You are not My people,’
There they shall be called sons of the living God.”
If the remnant were not saved there would be no seed to bring Christ
Rom 9:27 — Rom 9:29
Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel:
“Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea,
The remnant will be saved.
For He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness,
Because the Lord will make a short work upon the earth.”
And as Isaiah said before:
“Unless the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed,
We would have become like Sodom,
And we would have been made like Gomorrah.”
The Elect was always by faith, NOT BY NATURAL DESCENT
Romans 9:30
Present Condition of Israel
What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness of faith;
Christ is the end of the law for everyone who believes
Romans 10:4
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
--
There is no distinction now..
Rom 10:11 — Rom 10:13
For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
God blinded Israel anyway to make it happen..
Romans 11:7
What then? Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded.
The mystery of the elect
Romans 11:25
For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.
Don't be wise in your own opinion
Now for the crescendo...
Rom 11:32 — Rom 11:36
For God has committed them all to disobedience, that He might have mercy on all.
Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!
“For who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has become His counselor?”
“Or who has first given to Him
And it shall be repaid to him?”
For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.
He committed all to disobedience that he might have mercy on all.
That should be enough for you to rejoice like Paul to say what wisdom, what brilliance.
I don't hear many people agreeing with Paul in his conclusion. The Elect according to the natural, Israel did its job. It resulted in a Remnant, as the Elect by Faith, which then resulted in CHRIST the Real Elect, the Branch from the foundation of the world, to commit ALL to disobedience so that He can have mercy on all
------
How Will He Have Mercy on All?
Roms 8:
1. Goal All creation delivered.. Don't forget that
"For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. " [Rom 8:20]
2. The Jews were called according to His Purpose "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." <-- The Jews were called according to His purpose. What is the nature of the call or who are called?
Let's go back to Rom 9
"and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory, 24 even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
25 As He says also in Hosea:
“I will call them My people, who were not My people,
And her beloved, who was not beloved.”
26 “And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them,
‘You are not My people,’
There they shall be called sons of the living God.” [Rom 9:23-26]
----
It is not an irresistible call, that isforced, against your will, and you would be saved whether you like it or not (like Calvinism states). He called people who were not His people His people. He called Gentiles who were NOT ORIGINALLY called.
Does everyone respond? No.
He actually make us responsible for CALLING HIM also
Rom 10: 11-12
"For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”"
3. Who did God Foreknew? In context it was Israel. Rom 8:29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified."
Proof:
- Who was foreknown? In context Israel "I say then, has God cast away His people? Certainly not! For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew." [Heb 11:1-2]. NOT EVERYONE, not Americans, Canadians, Chinese etc.
- "He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren" <-- The predestination is to be conformed to His image. Who are His brethren? Israel, tribe of Judah
"11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 saying:
“I will declare Your name to My brethren;
In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You.”
13 And again:
“I will put My trust in Him.”
And again:
“Here am I and the children whom God has given Me.”
14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 16 For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham. "Heb 2:11-6
All of this pertains to Israel. Paul is making the argument about Israel until he shows that God called the remnant the elect and it is the elect who God saved, and nurtured, to be the agents of the ones who will set creation free through Christ.
"33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. " Rom 8:33-34
Then the argument picks up in Romans 9 showing God called Gentiles and then in fact Israel become vessels of wrath, but God blinded them to show mercy on all.
